Thank you very much for your interest in me and my writing…however fleeting that interest may be. We here at Brian Marcus Walker know you have trillions of choices in content to run your eyeballs across and appreciate every milisecond you spend here.
It has taken me a shameful amount of time to begin attempting to make something of my first love, storytelling, in earnest. My story begins on Chicago’s South Side and, though I’ve lived the majority of my life elsewhere at this point, its rowdy and irregular heartbeat still drives much of how I imagine the world. I graduated from New York University with a BA in English, and the University of Massachusetts with a Masters in Education. I have worked twenty years in numerous industries as a Facilitator, Instructional Designer, eLearning Designer, and Project Manager.
Chiefly, I find that my fiction is character based. Human characters are defined by what they choose to conform to versus that to which they cannot yield. I’ve written across a number of genres including sci-fi, fantasy, historical, and contemporary/literary fiction. I have also written a number of screenplays. The shared context is presenting a world that is slightly or greatly askew (yes—this includes our contemporary reality) and show what people due to conform or rebel against that world. What’s interesting to me is why characters choose their course and more important is the fundamental question of whether we are choosing at all or just rationalizing what’s been decided by fate or instinct.
